David yuen教授来我院讲学

        9月7日下午,在科技楼D310学术报告厅气氛热烈,来自中国地质大学特聘教授、美国明尼苏达大学超级计算机中心的David yuen教授,做了一场地球科学中的高性能计算机的应用的学术报告,受到我院师生的热烈欢迎。严良俊院长主持了报告会,并向我院师生介绍了David yuen教授的基本情况和学术成就。

        David yuen教授是世界著名的地球物理学家,与世界著名大学、研究所均有交流合作的关系。他利用高性能计算机已有40多年,一直认为地球物理学者应该用最快最好的计算机。他首先介绍了为什么地球科学需要高性能计算机,提到桌面计算已经远远落后于时代;然后介绍了高性能计算机的发展历史,重点介绍了日本的K超级计算机。最后介绍了超级计算机在地球科学中的应用,并举了实例说明超级计算机在各方面的优势。


David yuen教授简介:
        David A. Yuen received his bachelor's degree in physical chemistry from Caltech in 1969 and his master's degreein geophysics from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1973 and his PHD in geophysics and space physics in 1977with minor in applied mathematics from University of California at Los Angeles.He then spent two years in the Dept. of Physics at the University of Toronto as NSF and NATO Postdoctoral Fellows He spent from 1979 to 1985 at Dept. of Geology at Arizona State University as assistant and associate ProfessorHe moved to University of Colorado in 1985 as associate Professor then to University of Minnesotaas associate professor in the same year and a Fellow of the Minnesota Supercomputing InstituteHe has published close to 500 papers and has organized 12 International workshops and conferences in geophysics and high-performance computing around the whole world.He has been cited more than 6000 times and has an h-index of 46. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and has won the Japanese Senior Scientist award as well as Humboldt Fellow from Germany , NATO senior Fellowfrom Italy and has spent one year in Germany as Fulbright Fellow. He is the editor of Lecture Notes in Earth Sciencesfrom Springer verlag and served two times as associate editor of J. Geophysical research.
